What is meditation?

Meditation focuses on a single thought to soothe the mind, however Eastern styles of meditation use meditation to motivate the mind to cease thinking, thus they call it “non-thought”. Either way you meditate, meditation is the method to medicine that focuses on the form of thought.

How does stress affect health? By beating up our natural defenses.

Saturday, December 12th, 2009

The question how does stress affect health would be better asked as, what does stress NOT affect? As a matter of fact, the American Occupational Safety And Health Administration has declared stress a hazard of the workplace for everyone.health

Our bodies are swimming in an ocean of biological threats. Inside, they are a fine-tuned orchestra of chemicals , hormones and electrical impulses. We house a magical bonanza of every kind of process you can imagine.

Name it, our bodies can work around it, or, they used to be able to.
Fever is something we view as harmful and certainly it can be but, the basic use for it is to turbo charge the immune system when the body is being invaded. Part of the process involves causing blood vessels to leak fluid a bit.

Your nose is full of blood vessels so it will leak fluid. A runny nose provides a way for your body to rid the bloodstream of debris from viruses and dead cells. Sneezing and coughing are ways to use air to forcefully blow phlegm from your nose and throat, respectively.

Even the healthiest person has weak spots. Stress weakens our defenses and the weak spots are much weaker than a healthy, stress-free person’s.

A stressed body is not only more susceptible to biologics. It also self destructs through constipation, can’t sleep/ can’t wake up, heart issues, and many more modern day diseases.

Stress can cause you to suffer from neck and/or back pain. Women who are stressed frequently have problems getting pregnant when they want to.

An Insight to Medical Equipment

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

Medical science is branch of science that is used to diagnose and treat the irregularities in the functioning of the patient’s body using some technical apparatus. These technical devices are known as medical equipment and they are used to determine the patient’s medical condition so that an appropriate treatment can be administered to him. Almost all hospitals hire a Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) so that themedical equipment can be maintained in perfect condition.health

Medical equipment do comprise of laboratory devices and instruments that are used to perform analysis on a sample of urine, fasces, blood and even semen. The samples are first collected and then analyzed in the laboratories for further diagnosis. The medical state of a patient is determined on the basis of the results obtained from the analysis performed. There are other parameters too that are analyzed such as ECG, blood pressure, weight, pulse rate and many more. Imaging machines like Ultrasound, X-ray, PET, MRI and CT scanners are the diagnosticmedical equipment. Today, due to advancement in technology, the medical world has reached new highs. Laser surgeries, pace makers, infusion pumps and many other such devices are used to treat the patients suffering with critical diseases. However, it may not possible to continue the prolonged treatment in the hospital for some people due to their financial state. In that case, they make arrangements for homemedical equipment and continue with the treatment at home. The family of the patient takes care of him or they hire a qualified medical professional for the same. All requisitemedical equipment is arranged at home so that the patient is given proper care. Apart from the common home medical equipment like wheel chair, diabetic shoes and crutch, there are certain equipments that are used only if the doctor has recommended them like nasal cannula, nebulizer, etc. All such devices should be purchased by showing doctor’s prescription to a pharmacist.

However, the medical logistics persons regulate the purchase and sale of medical equipment supplies. They take care of the supply as well as the distribution of all sorts of medicines, surgical apparatus, pharmaceuticals and all other medical equipments including Ostomy supplies to the doctors, technicians, nurses and other medical professionals. These medical equipments are handled by trained and professional staff. It is mandatory for the suppliers to comply with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) so that the patient’s confidentiality is maintained.

Acne And Older Women

Saturday, November 14th, 2009

If you listen to medical experts – usually men – you will hear the link made between acne and puberty. Yes, the underlying cause of acne is always the same: too much oil produced in the skin. Yes, this is most likely to happen when the hormones kick in during the teen years. These experts will tell you that, for almost everyone, acne tapers off as the teen years end and only a small percentage continue to be affected as adults. Well, “only a small percentage” is actually several million women. Ignoring this problem simply drives them into the arms of the cosmetics industry which is only too willing to sell expensive foundation powders and creams to cover up the problem, and skin washes of different varieties to cleanse the skin.health

Well, the medical community is finally waking up to the idea that treatment may be better than costly cosmetic products. The first question is therefore why more adult women are affected by acne. As an aside, let’s be honest. Acne is not a disease or serious disorder. Everyone has colonies of bacteria growing harmlessly on their skin. When excess oil is produced in the skin, it can trap dead skin cells inside the pores. This provides a wonderfully warm environment in which some of the bacteria can reproduce The result is an infection and a spot. Unfortunately, the eruption of many spots over the face, neck and shoulders damages self-esteem. Our culture has made clear skin one of the criteria of beauty. So women affected are treated as less beautiful. Why is this excess oil produced? The most common reason is a hormone imbalance during pregnancy and, increasingly, during the menopause.

The cosmetics industry recommends you use exfoliating products to remove surface oil and some of the bacteria from the skin. The stronger exfoliates also encourage the dying skin cells to fall away, leaving a smoother healthy skin underneath. As a halfway house between a cosmetic and a medical product, you can also use a retinoid cream. This increases the rate at which your skin is shed. The stronger creams are only available on prescription. The medical response falls into two stages. Assuming no desire to produce children, taking an oral contraceptive reduces fluctuations in hormone levels and usually clears acne. This can be useful as you come into the menopause, particularly when combined with a drug to reduce the production of androgen, the hormone that triggers the excess oil production.
